Im Mittelpunkt der Handlung des Anime stehen der eigentliche Antagonist der »Kidou Senshi Gundam«-Reihe – Char Aznable – und dessen Kindheit sowie seine Zeit als junger Erwachsener. Char Aznable ist ein Pilotenass der Zeon und ist auch unter dem Spitznamen »Der Rote Komet« bekannt. Er war es, der im Auftrag Zeons die Forschungsstation in der 7.
